Bejewelled!

August 12, 2010

I definitely do not advocate adorning designer tops with stick on plastic jewels in the shape of stars. However, embellishment doesn’t have to mean ironing on the word ‘cute’ or ‘princess’ across the bum of much loved jeans. You can make a really boring top look amazing with the addition of a few oriental beads or vintage buttons.

Trinny may have given up buying clothes for a year, but there’s no questioning that she will be redesigning her old clothes to keep them up to date with modern trends. What better way to do that than embellishing clothes with the latest designs?

You can give second hand clothing a second life with just a little imagination. If there’s a small mark or tear in your favourite top, cover it with an eclectic group of coloured buttons or sequins. Zara sells lace neck wear for ridiculous amounts of money, so instead of spending, why not sew some quirky lace trim or neck piece onto the neck or hemline of a tired looking top?

The Trash Fashion exhibition currently at London’s Science Museum encourages people to find new ways to reinvent their wardrobes. If you follow the link below it will take you to a really great page that provides a multitude of photos of refashioned clothing and you never know, it may even inspire you to start customising your own clothes!

Sales Faux Pas

August 6, 2010

We’ve all done it. You find something in the sale but you haven’t got time to try it on. You buy it but when you get it home you find it doesn’t fit. You try to return the clothing but are told that sale items are non refundable. Not even exchangeable. We all love the summer sales but how many times have we heard this story?

So, what do you do? You could get angry with the sales lady, you could get upset and plead for an exchange, you could demand the address of head office… OR, you could go home, turn on your computer and log on to Swop2Shop. You are guaranteed to find an item of equal value and of equal quality. No stress, no hassle, just simple swapping.

Beat the Tax Increase

August 5, 2010

2011 will see tax rise from 17.5% to the European average of 20%. It’s estimated that there will be a peak in consumer spending before the increase in January, but how do you beat the higher tax rate when the New Year comes around?  Growing numbers of people have started swapping in an attempt to beat the current credit crunch so why not join the swapping community? We guarantee that once you start swapping, you won’t stop. It’s a great alternative to high street shopping and is bound to satisfy your spending cravings.

The rise in tax doesn’t have to mean a rise in spending – head to www.swop2shop.co.uk and become a serial swapper!

Floral Trends

August 3, 2010

Swop2Shop has an In-House Stylist…

…Meet Jess!

Every week she will be posting must-know styling tips and must-have seasonal items. As well as chatting about the latest fashions, she will be picking out some great designs from the Swop2Shop website and showing you exactly how to wear them!

Don’t know what top to wear with that necklace? Worried about what colours clash? Going on a date but haven’t a clue what you should wear?! Relax, Jess will also be taking all your fashion questions and queries and giving you the best style tips on offer!

This week we’re going floral…

Floral patterns have dominated the catwalk and high street. Heavily featured in the D&G show, it seems as though designers are finally celebrating the womanly figure as these feminine prints emphasise a softer, more fluid silhouette. Filtering down to the high street, it is clear this trend can be worn in a variety of ways and for many occasions.

Following another strong trend for the Spring/Summer 2010 the maxi dress and skirt. This easy style is relaxed and comfortable suitable for lazy days, evening drinks or shopping days with the girls. The key to this look is not to make it too busy, if the skirt is heavily patterned like this one, keep the top half and accessories basic and minimal. Think boho, think sienna miller!!

Proving the floral trend can be worn to a variety of occassions, perfect for a summer wedding or an evening at the theatre, this provides a perfect summer look with that subtle touch of glamour. Team it with sparkly sandles to stand out from the crowd and again keep accessories to a minimum with a busy printed dress for understated beauty!

A perfect holiday outfit. Adding a bright, bold print to a pair of casual jeans instantly gives you a summer glow and the colour looks great with a tan. This style of top is perfect for hot days as it floaty and flattering without being a sack!! It is an essential for any wardrobe, if not for its colour but for its versatility. Great teamed with shorts for a daytime, relaxed look or skinny jeans to make any summer night exciting!

Whether its tunic, maxi dress, top, skirt or even trousers. The floral print is THE trend for spring/ summer 2010, so why not invest in a piece, I’m sure it will be around for many more summers!!

Designer Delights

August 1, 2010

As an experienced swapping website, Swop2Shop knows that there are some swap sites that are full of Peacocks sales stock and charity shop off-casts. However, Swop2Shop values itself on providing a range of quality clothing from a range of quality retailers. We know that trawling through pages of clothing can sometimes become a tiny bit tedious but if you do a little rummaging you can find some really great designer items.

In stock, right now, we have gorgeous dresses from Betty Jackson and Calvin Klein, classic tops from LK Bennett, comfy cardigans from Boden, must-have handbags from Missoni and striking heels from Carvela and Ted Baker.
